Trauma Informed Yoga Session

Applied Polyvagal in Therapeutic Yoga

Trauma-informed yoga is an approach to yoga instruction and practice that recognizes and responds to the impact of trauma on individuals and communities. We create a safe and supportive environment for all , ensuring that our physical, mental, and emotional well-being is prioritized throughout the practice.

MOVEMENT AS MEDICINE

“When people have been traumatized, they are stuck in paralysis—the immobility reaction or abrupt explosions of rage. Because of this, they lack the healthy aggression that they need to carry out their lives effectively.” ― Peter A. Levine, Healing Trauma: A Pioneering Program for Restoring the Wisdom of Your Body

Beneath the surface of what is experienced as shattered, traumatized, wounded and broken, lies our whole-untouched-authentic self  held within the security of protectors and in wait for connection. Once the protectors trust that it is safe to ease and unwind, our whole-untouched-authentic self will spontaneously emerge, engaging parts of us that needs healing. - Megha Venketasamy

I am a trained Hatha Yoga Teacher and I hold a certificate in Applied Polyvagal Theory in Therapeutic Yoga.

My unmet trauma, my wounds, my pain and above the movements in my body and my nervous system led me on this path.

I have been learning to communicate and practice a quality of resilience in my body and my nervous system.

This is the foundations of my classes, “we show up in loving kindness and we practice in utter compassion for ourself.”

Through the lenses of trauma informed and trauma sensitive, we begin to become present to movements in the body and instead of calling them anxiety, stories of what happened, emotions , feelings , we learn to become present to the body. Such practice when returned over and over again, strengthens our embodiment in the body and our ability to hold ourselves. Trauma is frozen energy in the system. This act of freezing is active and it consumes our vital energy.

In my trauma informed and trauma sensitive yoga sessions, we move to intentionally create new memories for our nervous. We become present to our nervous system states and we horn our movements from that space.

Unlike other yoga sessions, trauma informed and trauma sensitive sessions are invitations, with modifications throughout the practice and our focus remains on easing chronic tension from the body while giving ourselves permission to move beyond our narratives. We engage in a conscious and intentional practice of strengthening our connection to our nervous system, learning the different states of the nervous system and befriending the states with loving kindness.
